Watch out for moose who like to lick vehicles. That’s a warning from the Alberta government for people visiting Peter Lougheed Provincial Park west of Calgary.

That’s a warning from the Alberta government for people visiting Peter Lougheed Provincial Park about 130 kilometres west of Calgary.

Alberta Parks says moose are on the trails at Chester Lake and Burstall Pass and are coming into the trailhead parking lots to lick salt off the sides of vehicles.

Ohio Millionaire Indicted on Food Stamp Fraud Charges

An Ohio millionaire has been indicted on charges that he illegally received food stamps and Medicaid assistance.

Ali Pascal Mahvi is facing four felony counts, which could put him in jail for more than four years if convicted, WKYC reported.

“I absolutely believe he should serve time behind bars,” said James Flaiz, the Geauga County prosecutor.

Prosecutors say Mahvi illegally collected $45,000 in Medicaid benefits and about $8,400 in food stamps, although Mahvi maintains his innocence.

Investigators raided Mahvi’s home in September for evidence that he collected food stamps and received Medicaid benefits while having millions of dollars in his bank account.

Mahvi, who claims that he has ties to Iranian royalty and owns 70 percent of a resort in St. Lucia, estimates his worth at about $120 million.

Breaking Free From The Captured Media – The Last American Vagabond

In its panicky rush to demonize the independent media via baseless accusations of “fake news,” the mainstream press has sunk to spewing “fake news” of its own. Here’s The Washington Post’s criminally false “fake news” article in case you missed it: Russian propaganda effort helped spread ‘fake news’ during election, experts say.So-called “fake news” was perfectly acceptable to the mainstream media when it was the exclusive purview of the central state. The infamous Gulf of Tonkin Incident in August 1964 that was used to justify a massive escalation of the heretofore limited war in Vietnam was heavily promoted by the mainstream media of the day.Within hours of the incident, Navy commanders had notified the Pentagon that the entire incident was very likely illusory, a “fog of war” error.Decades later, the mainstream media swallowed the Executive Branch’s “weapons of mass destruction” justification for the 2003 invasion of Iraq as well. Even more egregiously, the mainstream media parroted the central bank/state’s narrative about the Global Financial Meltdown of 2008, missing the systemic fraud and embezzlement at the heart of America’s financial system. Why is the mainstream media freaking out right now? The MSM had bet all its diminishing chips of credibility on Hillary Clinton winning the Presidency. Leading newspapers such as The New York Times ceaselessly undermined Bernie Sander’s campaign in favor of Hillary Clinton, a bias visible throughout the mainstream media. (When Bernie won a primary by a substantial margin, the smallish NYT headline would read something like “Sanders edges Clinton.” When Clinton won a primary by a slim margin, the NYT would declare in large typeface “Clinton regains momentum.” Do you see the not-so-subtle bias?)

Martin Scorsese: ‘Words and images don’t mean anything anymore’

Auteur Martin Scorsese has lamented the over-saturation of content and increasing disposability of film, harking back to the days when moving pictures were special as they were confined to the cinema or television. The director discussed why he doesn’t see a lot of films these days during a press conference for his new film, Silence.“There’s over saturation,” he told an audience of reporters, “particularly in our world as it is now and nothing really does have a meaning. “Images for example are everywhere. Cinema used to be in a building and even on television, you’d see a film or whatever. “I must say a lot of the films that I’m aware of…and I don’t see that many new ones over the past two or three years, I stopped because the images don’t mean anything.”

Backpage executives beat pimping charges, case dismissed

Last month, a California judge tentatively ruled that he would dismiss charges lodged by California’s attorney general against Backpage.com’s chief executive and two of its former owners. The tables seemed to turn after a November 16 hearing in which Sacramento County Superior Court Judge Michael Bowman decided against following his tentative ruling. But on Friday, the judge issued a final order that virtually mirrored the earlier one: charges dismissed. Carl FerrerThe CEO, Carl Ferrer, 55, was charged with pimping a minor, pimping, and conspiracy to commit pimping in connection to online advertisements posted on the online ads portal. As we previously reported: California’s attorney general and US Senator-elect Kamala Harris alleged that advertisements amounted to solicitation of prostitution. Ferrer and co-defendants were accused of making millions in profits off the backs of women and children forced into sexual servitude. The charges were brought as Harris—who decried the site as “the world’s top online brothel”—was running for a US Senate seat, which she won in November.Judge Bowman agreed with the defendants, including former owners Michael Lacey and James Larkin, that they were protected, among other things, by the Communications Decency Act, and hence they were not liable for third-party ads posted by others.

Barbie and Ken dolls transformed into Baphomet, Judas, Buddha & other religious figures

In 2014 Argentina-based artists Marianela Perelli and Pool Paolini “redesigned” 33 Barbie, Ken and Skipper dolls into various historical religious figures such as Judas, Jesus, the Virgin Mary, Buddha and Baphomet among others. The figures were a part of a show called “Barbie, the Plastic Religion” and as you might imagine there was a contentious backlash to Perelli and Paolini modified Barbie’s.

Though it’s important to note that the talented pair presented one of their Barbies to Pope Francis which he accepted. So there’s that.Though fans of organized religion will likely hurl the word “blasphemous” around when it comes to Perelli and Paolini’s plastic “gods” the artists have been very clear about their intentions, which believe it or not came from a positive place. Here’s more on that: Provocation is part of our life and what we do, but it’s harmless, constructive and without bad intentions. Barbie and the Plastic religion came from a place of peace and love, and mutual respect for all spiritual, religious beliefs.

The exhibit is now on display at the La Luz de Jesus Gallery on Hollywood Boulevard through the end of December. In other good news the figures in the show as well as paintings, Ken as Santa (or “San Nicholas”) a Barbie and Ken nativity scene and the holy trinity of Ken as Krishna, Buddha and Jesus rolling around in a Barbie Porsche 911 can be yours if you’re flush enough. I’ve included loads of images from the show below as well as an amusing video featuring a fake “Barbie” commercial that must be seen to be believed.

Why Didn’t Obama Reveal Intel About Russia’s Influence on the Election? – The Atlantic

The Obama administration turned a bright spotlight onto the Russian government’s attempts to influence America’s presidential election. The White House announced that the president had ordered the intelligence community to perform a “full review” of election-related hacking, kicking off a sweeping investigation that officials say should be complete before President Obama’s second term ends in less than six weeks. That evening, administration officials leaked the results of a secret CIA investigation into Russia’s motives for launching election-related cyberattacks to The Washington Post. The CIA had concluded that Russia “intervened in the 2016 election to help Donald Trump win the presidency.”Members of Congress who called on the White House to release more information about Russian involvement in the 2016 election—and who repeatedly hinted that the administration hadn’t publicized everything it knows on the issue—were vindicated by the revelations. But the news came too late to make a difference in the election.

Study: Half of people “remember” events that never happened

Ever find yourself caught up in a vivid memory of an event that, you later realize with confusion, didn’t really happen the way you thought? According to new research by psychologists at the University of Warwick in the U.K., you are far from alone. The study demonstrated that about half of individuals will come to believe a fictional event occurred if they are told about that event and then repeatedly imagine it happening. More than 400 people participated in the study, led by professor Kimberley Wade. The study experimented with implanting fake (but relatively harmless) memories, such as taking a childhood hot-air balloon ride, pulling a prank on a teacher, or causing trouble at a family wedding, into the minds of study participants. Researchers told them about the imaginary events as if they were real, and about 30 percent of participants appeared to “remember” it happening, even elaborating on how it occurred and describing details of what it was like. Another 23 percent showed signs of accepting the story to some degree, the researchers said.

Ohio State Attacker Added to Campus List of Those Wrongly Killed by Police

According to The Lantern, the student newspaper of Ohio State University, Pranav Jani, a professor in the school’s English department, claimed that she understood why Artan was moved to commit an act of violence. Among the names on the list was Artan. Those in attendance said they did not condone his actions, but some said they have compassion for the attacker, who expressed feelings of anxiety related to how he was perceived as a Muslim. “You can understand where an act of violence comes from without condoning that act of violence,” said Pranav Jani, an associate professor of English. The student organizers of the event explained that several of the members of their list had committed acts of violence before being killed by law enforcement. The students argue that their protest against police brutality extends to those guilty of violent crimes: “In some cases, the deceased may have committed acts of violence against others before they were killed. Perhaps they were domestic abusers, perhaps they threatened or killed others. This possibility is not something to shy away from. The protest against police brutality extends to the innocent and the guilty alike, because we know that no matter the crime, justice and due process don’t come from a cop’s bullet,” Abidi said while reading the eulogy.Ultimately, Artan’s name was added by the students to a list of persons of color who they believe had been wrongly killed by police over the past month.
