Iconic Calaveras tunnel tree topples during storm

CALAVERAS, Calif. (KGO) — The beloved ‘tunnel’ or ‘drive-thru’ tree fell to the ground during a massive storm in the Bay Area that left rivers and creeks flooded, houses damaged and several thousand people without power.Calaveras Big Trees State Park volunteer Jim Allday says the tree went down Sunday and shattered on impact. He says the once-majestic sequoia is now a heap of rubble.A tunnel was carved into the tree’s trunk in the 1880s to let tourists pass through. It had allowed cars, but more recently was only crossed on foot.Generations of locals and tourists have visited the tree for centuries, posing for photos and carving their names into it.San Francisco Bay area resident Joyce Brown has been visiting the tree since she was 12 and says it feels like she’s lost a family member.

CNN says its reports on Trump intel documents different from BuzzFeed’s

CNN, the news division of Time Warner Inc, said on Wednesday its decision to publish “carefully sourced reporting” on unverified intelligence documents concerning President-elect Donald Trump is “vastly different than BuzzFeed’s decision to publish unsubstantiated memos.”CNN’s statement came after Trump called the news outlet “fake news” and refused to take a CNN reporter’s questions at his first formal news conference since his Nov. 8 electoral win.BuzzFeed on Tuesday published a story about a dossier of documents it said were unverified and “potentially unverifiable” allegations of contact between Trump aides and Russian operatives.Included in the documents were claims that Russian intelligence had compromising information about Trump.

Mark Zuckerberg is pissing off a lot of people

Mark Zuckerberg will be grappling with a growing problem in 2017: Facebook hate. The social-networking giant has landed on a list of “America’s Most Hated Companies,” with users hacked off over its handling of everything from fake news to privacy concerns.“Facebook has been a boon for shareholders, financial news blog 24/7 Wall St. noted as it published its ignominious list. “However, not everyone is pleased with the social media platform.”Facebook’s name ended up in sixth place behind Comcast, Bank of America, Mylan, McDonald’s and Wells Fargo.Trailing Facebook on the miserable list of 12 were the slightly less-hated Spirit Airlines, Dish Network, Sears, Sprint, Walmart and Charter Communications.

Hungary Plans to Crackdown on All Soros-Funded NGOs

Hungary plans to crack down on non-governmental organizations linked to billionaire George Soros now that Donald Trump will occupy the White House, according to the deputy head of Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s party. The European Union member will use “all the tools at its disposal” to “sweep out” NGOs funded by the Hungarian-born financier, which “serve global capitalists and back political correctness over national governments,” Szilard Nemeth, a vice president of the ruling Fidesz party, told reporters on Tuesday. No one answered the phone at the Open Society Institute in Budapest when Bloomberg News called outside business hours.“I feel that there is an opportunity for this, internationally,” because of Trump’s election, state news service MTI reported Nemeth as saying. Lawmakers will start debating a bill to let authorities audit NGO executives, according to parliament’s legislative agenda.

Ohio Leads the Way for Civil Asset Forfeiture Reform in 2017

It’s a little over a week into 2017 and Ohio is already leading the way on civil asset forfeiture reform. On January 4th, Ohio Governor John Kasich signed legislation that would require a criminal conviction before civil asset forfeiture laws could be used by law enforcement to confiscate the property of regular Americans. This makes Ohio the 12th state to adopt this type of legislation.2016 was a mixed year for reforming forfeiture laws. At the very end of 2015, the federal government announced that it would be putting its “Equitable Sharing Program” on hiatus, after federal omnibus legislation cut hundreds of billions of dollars from the program. In this program, state and local law enforcement agencies partner with the federal government to seize property from citizens without any criminal conviction. States are incentivized by the promise of Washington sharing up to 80 percent of the seized cash and other goods with them.

White House Releases Strategy To Defend Against Killer Asteroids

The White House quietly released its Near-Earth Object Preparedness Strategy, a 25-page document outlining the United States’ plans in the event that a giant asteroid is found to be on a collision course with Earth. Among the priorities outlined by the strategy are improving Near-Earth Object (NEO) detection, developing methods for deflecting asteroids, and developing interagency emergency procedures in the event of an NEO impact. Given the stakes, it’s clear why NASA and the leading US defense and research agencies came together in January 2016 to form the Detecting and Mitigating the Impact of Earth-bound Near-Earth Objects (DAMIEN) working group to address the issues associated with killer asteroids. The DAMIEN group is behind the White House’s new NEO strategy, and will be responsible for hashing out the specifics of the plan to save Earthlings from killer asteroids going forward. To assist in the search, the DAMIEN report calls for a space-based observatory dedicated to finding NEOs, which will work in cooperation with ground-based observatories. Since a telescope in space isn’t limited by terrestrial weather conditions, it would greatly enhance Spaceguard’s search capacity. The only plans currently underway for a space-based NEO telescope are being carried out by the non-profit B612 foundation whose Sentinel telescope was supposed to launch last December, but has been delayed due to difficulties securing the requisite $450 million in funding required for the project. NASA has also been considering the NEOCam, a space-based telescope that has received provisional funding for “detailed refinement.” Unfortunately, during the latest round of budgeting for NASA’s Discovery program, two other satellites were greenlit instead of NEOCam, but NASA said it would continue the asteroid-hunter’s provisional funding, so there is still hope that NASA may go forward with a space-based NEO observatory in the future, especially in light of the recent White House strategy. In tandem, the report also recommends updating the capabilities of ground-based NEO observatories by endowing them with more powerful planetary radars and improved spectroscopy instruments (this would allow for more accurate determinations of the composition of an asteroid). But detection is only half the battle. In the event that an asteroid is found to be on an impact trajectory with Earth, NASA is also thinking about ways to deflect the killer asteroid. Some pretty far-out ideas have been proposed on this front, ranging from nukes in space to giant sun-powered lasers, but the most likely method is simply ramming into the asteroid to change its course. Finally, should all else fail, the report also considers what to do in an impact scenario.

ROASTED POTATO & CARROTS WITH ROSEMARY

A no-peel Roasted Potato & Carrots with Rosemary. It takes less than 10 minutes to prepare and 25 minutes to bake. It’s got such flavour because of the delicious garlic and paprika seasoning. It’s also completely meatless. In this recipe, I suggest using organic vegetables where possible as you’re eating the skin as well and you don’t want to be consuming all those nasty pesticides that reside on non-organic produce. If budget doesn’t allow for organic, invest in a fruit and vegetable wash that will help remove any harmful chemicals. My husband purchased ours at Wholefoods. Better yet, learn how to make your own DIY fruit/veggie wash by clicking here. I’m also using organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil by Terra Delyssa which is my go-to olive oil. I hope you give this recipe a shot and please share it with your friends and family.

The Government’s Failed Attempt to Arbitrate The Truth

Right now, all across the globe, alternative media outlets that are receiving millions of views and ‘likes’ across several different social media platforms are continuing to grow and garner attention, this is due in large part to the fact that so many people can now see through the ‘hogwash’ that mainstream media spews out on a yearly basis. Sure, not everything that’s presented to the masses via mainstream media is ‘fake news,’ but unfortunately, a large portion of it is and this has been demonstrated during several instances which provided onlookers the opportunity to ‘wake up,’ for lack of a better phrase.Perhaps the best example in recent history was 9/11. Even today, studies are being published that pretty much make it clear that all three buildings were destroyed by controlled demolition. Here’s a great example that was published last year in the magazine of the European Physical Society. Some of you may be asking yourselves, “well if this is actually true, why isn’t mainstream media covering it?” That’s because the powerful group of elite who manufacture these events and then dish a fake explanation to the masses, also own the mainstream media. This became clear to many decades ago when the CIA was outed for their “Operation Mockingbird,” a CIA-based initiative to control mainstream, and according to those who have been working for these major media outlets, it’s still happening today.
