Richard Kelly, the director of Donnie Darko, has hinted at another sequel of the 2001 cult classic.
A follow up called S. Darko was released eight years after the original, in 2009, but didn’t have the involvement of the original director or key cast members such as Jake Gyllenhaal, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Drew Barrymore. It also received some pretty poor reviews and currently has a rating of 3.6 out of 10 on IMDB. “I’ve never seen it – it was horribly violating,” said Kelly when speaking to NME about the film. “It was incredibly painful to think about what they were doing, it made me very angry, filled with rage.”
Kelly unveiled his potential plans for another sequel while speaking to HMV, adding that he’s been “working on a lot of different projects”.
