Iceland police warn drivers to stop looking at Northern Lights to prevent road accidents

Police in Iceland have warned tourists to stop staring at the Northern Lights while driving. Officers pulled over two cars moving erratically last week, initially on suspicion the drivers were under the influence of alcohol. But on both occasions, the visitors said they has been mesmerised by the aurora borealis above them, reports Iceland Magazine.

It’s not just you: Massive internet outage is sweeping the East Coast – BGR

If it seems like your internet browsing is hitting more walls than possible today, you’ll be happy to know that it’s not your computer. A massive Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage is striking down lots and lots of web pages, leading to huge hiccups on a number of domains. Amazon is reporting the issue on its AWS dashboard, citing “Increased Error Rates,” which is a fancy way of saying that something is seriously broken.

Amazon Web Services is the cloud services arm of Amazon, and its Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) is used by everyone from Netflix to Reddit. When it goes down — or experiences any type of increased latency or errors — it causes major issues downstream, preventing content from loading on web pages and causing requests to fail.

What Exactly Causes “White Guilt?”

Whites feel guilty about their secret but justified fears of blacks. When Adele was awarded the Record of the Year at the Grammys last week, she felt she had to apologize to Beyonce for having won it over her. After last year’s #Oscarssowhite campaign, blacks, who comprise 13% of the population, were given 30% of the acting nominations for the Academy Awards this year.Adele must have been so afraid of sparking another Kanye West-Taylor Swift moment that she decided to preempt it by prostrating herself, beforehand, to Queen Bey.And those Academy members must have been so horror-stricken by the negative publicity of the Oscarssowhite controversy that they made sure not thirteen percent, but thirty percent of this year’s acting nominees were black.Whites are just absolutely terrified about appearing “racist” against blacks, in any way. It’s a crippling fear, to the point where whites will cower in the face of black demands. Yet there is no equivalent fear regarding the other races. So why is it that no such fear of being accused of racism exists vis-a-vis yellow people or brown people? It’s not as if Amerindian or Asian features aren’t easily recognizable. There’s a virtual boycott against Hispanics and Asians at the Oscars, but nobody seems to care. Hispanics and Asians are extremely underrepresented in professional football and basketball, yet nobody expresses concern. (Sport is, of course, the one area of American life where nobody seems to be agitating for proportional participation; Americans seem content to let pro sports remain a meritocracy.)

This system admin used VPN to hack into and cause $1.1 million loss to his ex-employer before being caught

Getting a pink slip is a bad news for anybody. Some take it in the stride while others take to Twitter and Facebook to rant about it. Very few are likely to go to an extreme and cause loss to their ex-employer. Brian Johnson, 44, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, US is one such system admin who didn’t lightly to his employer sacking him and decided to make a big mess of it before being caught and landing in prison for 34 months. The Register reports that Johnson was working in a paper making factory called Georgia-Pacific for several years. On the fateful Valentine’s Day of 2014, the company decided to fire him. Johnson did not take the company’s decision in the right spirit and decided to get even with it.Johnson hacked into Georgia-Pacific servers using VPN once his employment was terminated. Once back inside the corporate network, he installed his own software and targeted the paper factory’s Port Hudson branch, which produces paper towels and tissues 24 hours a day. Johnson caused a $1.1 million loss to Georgia-Pacific during his two-week hacking campaign.

New Study Justifies Darwin’s ‘Living Fossils’ Theory

A new study has validated one of Charles Darwin’s longstanding theories about ‘living fossils.’Darwin invented the term in 1859, after he observed living species that looked just like their ancestors of millions of years ago. These creatures occupied small parts of the world, escaped competition and therefore did not change.A team of researchers from the University of Bristol have identified a new way to measure the evolutionary rate of the ‘living fossil’ Sphenodon punctatus or tuatara. The study confirmed that the tuatara has shown very slow evolution, as expected, and importantly, its anatomy is very conservative.Tuatara is a relatively large lizard-like animal that once inhabited the main islands of New Zealand, but it was pushed to the 32 smaller, offshore islands by human activity. While tuatara are not lizards, they share a common ancestor from about 240 million years ago and have survived as an independent evolutionary line since.

Yahoo Admits New Hack of 1 Billion Accounts

The massive breach, separate from the hack of 500 million accounts announced last September, may include everything from names, email addresses and telephone numbers to birthdays and MD5 hashed passwords.“Yahoo believes an unauthorized third party, in August 2013, stole data associated with more than one billion user accounts,” Yahoo’s chief information security officer Bob Lord wrote. “The company has not been able to identify the intrusion associated with this theft. Yahoo believes this incident is likely distinct from the incident the company disclosed on September 22, 2016.”The company says it’s in the process of notifying potentially affected users while taking steps to secure accounts through required password changes.

US Air Force terminates Predator drones. Now you will fear the Reaper

After more than 20 years of service, the US Air Force fly boys have today announced that the MQ-1 Predator drone is going to be phased out within a year.Since its first operational deployment in the Balkan wars in the mid-1990s, the Predator has evolved from a pure surveillance drone to an armed flying weapon that has become a symbol of American military forces in large sections of the Middle East. But now the remote-controlled slayer of terrorists and wedding parties is being replaced by the more powerful MQ-9 Reaper drone.”Right now the plan is to stop flying the MQ-1 in 2018, and that means we need to get transitioned this year,” said Air Force Lieutenant Colonel “James,” the 20th Attack Squadron commander.”As part of that, we are going to stop flying the MQ-1 completely by July 1, 2017. We will gradually stand up our number of combat lines on the MQ-9, so by the end of the year we are only an MQ-9 squadron.”

Skiing Returns to Pakistan 10 Years After Taliban Banned it as an ‘Un-Islamic’ Activity

Skiing is gaining popularity in Pakistan again a decade after the Taliban banned it as an “un-Islamic” activity. The Malam Jabba – the only public ski resort in Pakistan (pictured) – is in the Hindu Kush, 9,000 ft above sea level. Conditions are reported to be excellent, despite the uneven state of the slopes. After the Taliban seized the area tourists disappeared, fearing for their lives. The fanatics imposed a brutal Islamist regime there and executed anyone perceived to be a dissident, often hanging their bodies from lampposts. But, according to the Times of London, today a Chinese-built chair lift ferries tourists back up the mountain and a luxury hotel, replacing one razed by the Taliban, is being built, with cheaper hotels and hostels already open for business. Many are said to use wooden skis on the slopes. There are a small number of tourists from China and Japan. Although the army regained control of Swat after a long and brutal offensive in 2009, it has taken time for tourists to return.

Bleak Sabbath: Did the mysterious occult group Jacula invent black metal in 1969?

It’s either the most mind-blowing musical anomaly ever unearthed or it’s bullshit. Me, I prefer to believe. You will too. Light some black candles, take a slow sip from your crusty bottle of absinthe, and dig this spooky backstory….In 1966, fledgling mystic Antonio Bartoccetti moved to Milan where he met a wizard named Franz Parthenzy. The two (apparently) communed with dark spirits who gifted Antonio with a musical vision so sinister and so subversive that it took him three years just to find collaborators brave enough to help him bring it to hideous life. He was eventually joined by an older British pipe organist with a classical background named Charles Tiring (R.I.P., presumably, unless he’s 118 years old) and a mysterious vocalist/violinist/keyboard masher, Fiamma Dello Spirito (or Doris Norton, as mere mortals call her).

Look How Many Illegals Got Caught Voting in Ohio

Ohio Secretary of State John Husted informed the public on Monday that nearly 400 non-citizens were able to register to vote, 82 of whom cast ballots.Husted’s office reportedly found the 385 illegal registrations during a biennial review of the voter database in the state that has 7.9 million registered voters. and used the number to poo-poo the fraud, because hey, if they only catch a few here or there, it’s not like it’s a big deal right? Never mind that it adds up.That’s leftist “logic” for reported:Husted is sending law enforcement the names of the 82 non-citizens who voted, so officials can investigate and decide whether to prosecute. His office will send letters to the non-citizens who registered but never voted, requesting they cancel their registration. If they fail to do so, they could ultimately face prosecution. Election fraud can carry a fifth-degree felony charge in Ohio.As Trump has alleged voter fraud in last year’s election, Husted has countered that election fraud isn’t a common problem. Still, his office has boasted of its three reviews of the voter rolls to look for non-citizens, the first such reviews conducted by an Ohio secretary of state.…The secretary of state’s office began the biennial review in 2013. Reviews that year and in 2015 uncovered a total of 44 non-citizens who voted in an election. Of those, eight people have been convicted of breaking the law and two other cases still are pending, spokesman Josh Eck said.“In light of the national discussion about illegal voting it is important to inform our discussions with facts. The fact is voter fraud happens, it is rare and when it happens, we hold people accountable,” a statement from Husted, a Republican that is reportedly likely to run for governor of the state, read.

California Law Enforcement Union Sues To Block Police Accountability

Because there’s just not enough opacity shrouding police misconduct and not enough slanting of the criminal justice system against defendants, California police unions have decided to get involved in a judicial dispute over lists of law enforcement officers whose half of “our word against yours” isn’t quite as bulletproof as is normally assumed.

A Los Angeles sheriff is trying to do the right thing, but he’s running into opposition from his own supposed “representatives.”

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has collected the names of about 300 deputies who have a history of past misconduct — such as domestic violence, theft, bribery and brutality — that could damage their credibility if they testify in court.

Sheriff Jim McDonnell wants to send the names to prosecutors, who can decide whether to add them to an internal database that tracks problem officers in case the information needs to be disclosed to defendants in criminal trials.

Kaspersky OS: 4 Things to Know

Kaspersky Labs have come out with another solution to the cybersecurity worries of the netizens worldwide — the Kaspersky OS, which was in the making for over 14 years and has finally been released commercially.

The secure OS was first announced in November 2016 and the company has rolled out the product commercially now. It works for Internet of Things, network devices such as in telecommunications, connected cars and industrial control systems.

The Moscow-based anti-virus and cyber security company claim that their OS ‘is ahead of any competition’.

Talking about the Kaspersky OS and debunking its myths, Eugene Kaspersky, CEO of the company said, “OS has not a single Linux code, is based on a microkernel architecture and allows customers to examine the source code to make sure it has no undocumented capabilities.”

The company claims that the robust build of the OS is in itself enough to protect a system from malicious code, viruses and hacker attacks.

Incident report on memory leak caused by Cloudflare parser bug

Last Friday, Tavis Ormandy from Google’s Project Zero contacted Cloudflare to report a security problem with our edge servers. He was seeing corrupted web pages being returned by some HTTP requests run through Cloudflare.

It turned out that in some unusual circumstances, which I’ll detail below, our edge servers were running past the end of a buffer and returning memory that contained private information such as HTTP cookies, authentication tokens, HTTP POST bodies, and other sensitive data. And some of that data had been cached by search engines.

For the avoidance of doubt, Cloudflare customer SSL private keys were not leaked. Cloudflare has always terminated SSL connections through an isolated instance of NGINX that was not affected by this bug.

We quickly identified the problem and turned off three minor Cloudflare features (email obfuscation, Server-side Excludes and Automatic HTTPS Rewrites) that were all using the same HTML parser chain that was causing the leakage. At that point it was no longer possible for memory to be returned in an HTTP response.

Alphabet’s Waymo Sues Uber Over Self-Driving Car Secrets

Google parent Alphabet Inc.’s heated rivalry with Uber Technologies Inc. over self-driving cars has spilled into the courthouse, after the internet giant sued the ride-hailing company for allegedly stealing trade secrets to jump-start its own autonomous vehicle program.Anthony Levandowski, a former key manager in the Google self-driving car project, is accused of secretly downloading 14,000 files in December 2015 before departing Alphabet last year to create Otto, a self-driving truck maker acquired last year by Uber. This information was allegedly used by Uber to develop a laser sensor for self-driving navigation, according to the lawsuit filed by Alphabet’s Waymo LLC unit on Thursday in U.S. District Court in San Francisco.“We take the allegations made against Otto and Uber employees seriously and we will review this matter carefully,” said an Uber spokeswoman, who declined to make Mr. Levandowski available.

Stalking Your Stalker: Russian Spy Tips for Meeting People from Dating Sites

So you’ve foolishly agreed to meet an online contact in meat space. And yet you know that online made meetings can be appointments to rob you[ Sacramento police warn of social networking robbery trend ]. What to do?Never fear. Sensing’s got you covered with his own training:Sense of Events: A Soviet spy on how to meet a dating-site match in personThanks to my training at the Army’s counter-terrorism school and former Soviet spy Victor Suvorov’s explanation of “fieldcraft,” the steps that espionage agents take to avoid capture while spying on and in hostile countries, here are the rules for meeting anyone whom you have not met in person before:

1. Try to get a photo sent to you beforehand. The sticky wicket is providing one back. In a word, no. But if you are meeting someone from a dating site, this can be difficult. Judgment call to ask. But it is also likely that the other person’s social media, perhaps even the dating site itself, will have one. But be prepared for it to be, um, inaccurate or out of date.

2. Do insist on being fully told how you will recognize the other person – what s/he is wearing, color of hair, does s/he wear eyeglasses, height, weight (yeah, good luck with that, guys), etc. Then when you go to meet, wear something else. If robbers are using these sites to lure you there, you do not want to show up looking like you.

3. Arrive very early. Suvorov wrote that he always arrived a few hours before the set time, found a spot away from the meeting place and keenly observed who came and went, especially those who came and didn’t went. Of course, he was stealing military secrets so you don’t need to arrive hours, plural, early, but one hour. And then watch. I am guessing that thugs will get there 15-20 minutes beforehand, so be alert, as Suvorov was, for men who arrive and seem to have no purpose being there. In other words, they look like they are waiting…. Read even more tips at Sense of Events

BOSTON (CBS) – The Atlanta Falcons weren’t able to keep their Poker Face during the second half and overtime of Super Bowl LI against the Patriots. With a few weeks to ponder how his team blew a 25-point second half lead, one member of the Falcons turned to Lady Gaga as a possible scapegoat.Wide receiver Mohamed Sanu told the NFL Network’s Good Morning Football on Friday that Lady Gaga’s 40-minute halftime performance “definitely did” impact the team’s play in the second half.“Usually, halftime is only like 15 minutes, and when you’re not on the field for like an hour, it’s just like going to work out, like a great workout, and you go sit on the couch for an hour and then try to start working out again,” Sanu said on the NFL Network, via by CBS Sports.

Transgender boy wins Texas girls wrestling title

CYPRESS Mack Beggs came here to wrestle. And wrestle he did, manhandling four opponents over two days as he captured a Class 6A girls state championship Saturday. The 110-pound gold medalist also captured something else: The attention of a nation increasingly polarized by transgender issues.Beggs, a 17-year-old transgender boy from Euless Trinity High School, didn’t come to the state tournament seeking to carry the transgender torch, or to become a lightning rod, or to be the target of a lawsuit that could end his high school wrestling career. But those subplots all played out during the two-day UIL Wrestling State Tournament at the Berry Center in Cypress, where Beggs defeated Chelsea Sanchez of Katy Morton Ranch 12-1 to win the championship.

The heavy political overtones accompanying this year’s Academy Awards became evident in advance of Sunday’s ceremony, as directors of the five foreign-language film nominees Friday issued an unprecedented advance statement condemning “the climate of fanaticism and nationalism” in the U.S. and other countries. They dedicated the Oscar, no matter which film wins, to those working toward unity. They directors symbolically rejected the borders that define their category’s nominees, saying, “We believe there is no best country, best gender, best religion or best color. Glasses may get banned at Boston bars after assaults | Boston Herald

Your days of sipping adult beverages from a Solo cup could be making a comeback, specifically at some of Boston’s high-end bars.Following a string of local bar assaults involving glassware, the city’s Liquor Licensing Board is moving to crack down on establishments where patrons have suffered injuries related to glasses holding drinks. Watering holes with repeat offenses could have to use plastic barware in lieu of the real deal — no matter how upscale the joint.

Low-fare flights to Ireland, Scotland start at $65 todaySnake colony plan remains slippery for Wildlife boardMan allegedly planted bomb on Maynard porch“If we see a pattern of glass as a weapon it will no longer be allowed,” Christine Puglini, the board’s chairwoman, said at a hearing yesterday, addressing representatives of Minibar, a Copley Square Hotel bar. “You may be high-end, but you’re not acting high-end.

”Two posh hotel bars, Minibar and Bond Lounge at the Langham, were brought before the board yesterday for recent assaults involving glasses. According to police reports, a Bond Lounge patron smashed a beer bottle over the head of another customer on New Year’s Day. Several days earlier at Minibar, police said, a patron punched and threw a glass at another man who groped his fiancee.

Gene Editing: The Next Step In Self-Evolution?

Last week, two developments in gene editing shifted this potent new technology from a possibility to more of a probability. Yet it’s likely that the news didn’t register with most people. Despite the revolutionary potential of a tool that may soon make it possible for Homo sapiens to manipulate DNA and to self-evolve – for better or for worse. The new technology goes by the funny-sounding name “Crispr-Cas9” – a method that has the power to cut and paste DNA, the basic code of life in humans and all other organisms, almost as simply as moving letters around on a word processor.

Researchers expect to use Crispr-Cas9 to fix or improve DNA sequences linked to diseases like Huntington’s and some cancers. The method could also be used to bump up a person’s smarts, height, or stamina, although not yet.“We have within our grasp the technology to change evolution,” said Paul Berg, a genetics pioneer from Stanford, about Crispr-tech. “This could change the course of biological life.”Discovered in 2012 by scientists in California and Sweden, Crispr-Cas9 moved closer to reality last Tuesday when the National Academies of Sciences (NAS) released a report about the ethics and the proper uses of Crispr-tech. The next day came a patent court ruling that decided who has the rights to commercially exploit some basic components of Crispr-Cas9.

What Is The Difference Between Shell, Console, And Terminal?

As technology progresses, lines get blurred between objects and concepts that were previously very distinct. Words can be colloquialized to share the same meaning when they once had their own. Sometimes multiple devices can be melted down into a single box without any sign of their separate technological lineage. Something similar happened to the shell, the console, and the terminal. For many years now, the wireless router has been the backbone of internet connectivity in most homes and many small offices. But many people fail to realize (except for the technically astute among you) that the device is actually made up of several devices that used to be independent of one another and quite well-defined. A typical wireless router, even the cheapest of cheap, contains a wireless access point, ethernet switch, router, stateful firewall, DNS server, DHCP server, QoS engine, and sometimes many more features (such as a DSL/coax modem).

As a result, the technical layperson might refer to this device as “the wireless,” a modem, a router, or simply “the internet box.” All of which fail to encapsulate the whole story, and that’s only one example (and not even what this article is about).Shell, Terminal, and Console — How are they different?Anyone who has tried their hand at an operating system outside the realm of Microsoft and Apple in any serious capacity has undoubtedly come into contact with the command line interface. What do you call it? The shell? The console? The terminal? Does it matter? They all mean the same thing, right? The answer to that is yes and no. Just like the wireless router, these used to be (and technically still are) different parts of the same whole, despite the words sharing their meanings.

Hundreds of campuses encourage students to turn in fellow students for offensive speech

Universities are the cradle of free speech, where ideologies and ideas clash, where academics and activists can agree, disagree, or be disagreeable. This is particularly true in the United States, where the First Amendment zealously guards against government surveillance and intrusion into free speech.Yet at hundreds of campuses across the country, administrators encourage students to report one another, or their professors, for speech protected by the First Amendment, or even mere political disagreements.

The so-called “Bias Response Teams” reviewing these (often anonymous) reports typically include police officers, student conduct administrators and public relations staff who scrutinize the speech of activists and academics. This sounds like the stuff of Orwell, although even he might have found the name “Bias Response Team” to be over-the-top.Over the past year, I surveyed more than 230 such reporting systems for the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education and asked dozens of schools for records about their Bias Response Teams. What I found is detailed in a new report describing how universities broadly define “bias” to include virtually any speech, protected or not, that subjectively offends anyone. On many campuses, administrators are called upon to referee whether speech is polite.

MSNBC Just Admitted: “Our Job” Is To “Control Exactly What People Think”

MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski just erased any lingering doubts the corporate press serves almost wholly to vomit propaganda in order to control public perception, in a rather stupefying statement during an exchange with Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough about President Trump possibly “trying to undermine the media.”“Exactly. That is exactly what I hear,” Scarborough stated. “What Yamiche said is what I hear from all the Trump supporters that I talk to who were Trump voters and are still Trump supporters. They go, ‘Yeah you guys are going crazy. He’s doing — what are you so surprised about? He is doing exactly what he said he is going to do.’”“Well, I think that the dangerous, you know,” Brzezinski replied, “edges here are that he is trying to undermine the media and trying to make up his own facts. And it could be that while unemployment and the economy worsens, he could have undermined the messaging so much that he can actually control exactly what people think. And that, that is our job.”

The Post-Human World

Famine, plague, and war. These have been the three scourges of human history. But today, people in most countries are more likely to die from eating too much rather than too little, more likely to die of old age than a great plague, and more likely to commit suicide than to die in war. With famine, plague, and war in their twilight—at least, for now—mankind will turn its focus to achieving immortality and permanent happiness, according to Yuval Harari’s new book Homo Deus. In other words, to turning ourselves into gods.Harari’s previous work, Sapiens, was a swashbuckling history of the human species. His new book is another mind-altering adventure, blending philosophy, history, psychology, and futurism. We spoke recently about its most audacious predictions. Why William and Kate Have a Royal Work Problem

After several months of near invisibility—Kate has only made a handful of public appearances since December—the future Queen was everywhere earlier this week.On Sunday night, she was the star of the show at the BAFTAS, Britain’s cut-price answer to the Oscars, resplendent in an unseasonably spring-like Alexander McQueen gown, which she wore with the shoulder straps down and her hair up, despite the chilly winter weather. On Monday, some press photographers were tipped off to shoot some “candid” pictures of Kate, 35, wearing skinny black jeans and a red puffer jacket, with William and Harry at St Mary’s university, where the trio were filming scenes for a documentary about the benefits to mental health of physical exercise, in support of their mental health charity Heads Together. The show will air around the time of the London Marathon which will also benefit the charity.

Breaks For Sex Is Needed At Work Says Swedish Politician

I mean, what’s the difference between taking six 10-minute breaks to smoke a Marb Red or getting your pole smoked for an hour? Either way, you’ll be ready to tackle the rest of the day.According to the Indy 100, a 42-year-old local council member for Övertorneå in northern Sweden thinks Swedes should be allowed to take a one-hour paid break to “go home and have sex with their partners Per-Erik Muskos is our hero, and he’s using studies that show sex is healthy to back up his proposal.

Muskos thinks that couples aren’t spending enough time together in “today’s busy society,” and he’s hoping his idea of a one-hour sex break can improve people’s relationships.“It’s about having better relationships,” Muskos said. According to the National Sleep Foundation, “one in every four married or cohabiting Americans say they’re so sleep deprived they’re too tired to have sex – and are often kept awake by financial worries.” Another study suggests people are working so much these days that they’re losing interest in coming home for a hump.

“Hold Gold”: Why This Country Wants Its People to Buy Gold

Editor’s Comment: Important things are happening on the global stage with regard to the money system. It is a long game, and will take many years to fully play out. But one of those important developments involves the feverish return to gold holdings in both China and Russia, and many individuals in these societies, in India and other burgeoning world powers are also investing in gold. The reason? There is a power play in the works, and there is every possibility that the central banks around the world could drive the fiat currencies into the ground.

The U.S. petrodollar could well lose its global reserve status – indeed, there may be nothing to stop it. As that happens, people around the world are looking to stability, privacy and security in their monetary assets. This is even true in less developed, and little talked about places like Kyrgyzstan, mentioned in this article, were antiquated stores of wealth, like cattle, are still king. But with capricious times ahead, and neighboring Asian powers like China grounding themselves, the government is urging its people to get ready. Are you ready? One Country’s Central Bank Is Urging Its 6 Million Citizens To Buy Goldby Shaun BradleyThe central bank of Kyrgyzstan is encouraging its six million citizens to each own at least 3.5 oz (100 grams) of physical gold. The precious metal is the nation’s leading export but, surprisingly, the people there invest most of their money in cattle.

The country’s location on China’s border seems to be playing a significant role in its choice to shift away from their traditional form of investment. A growing trend across Asia has been an increasing demand for physical metals by private and institutional investors. The Chinese and Russian governments are leading the world in their efforts to stockpile gold, and in turn, they have been fueling speculation about its importance in the future of international finance.

Countries like India have seen internal turmoil as their traditions of owning precious metals confront the government’s new war on cash. The Indian people are the world’s largest buyers of gold, and the measures taken to eliminate cash transactions have only emboldened black markets to meet demand. As authorities crack down on paper money, gold remains one of the last physical and untraceable assets available. The current uncertainty in the banking system has increased demand for more direct control over one’s savings.

Amazon Argues Alexa Speech Protected By First Amendment In Murder Trial Fight

Amazon is sticking to its guns in the fight to protect customer data. The tech titan has filed a motion to quash the search warrant for recordings from an Amazon Echo in the trial of James Andrew Bates, accused of murdering friend Victor Collins in Bentonville, Arkansas in November 2015. And it’s arguing as part of that motion that the responses of Alexa, the voice of the artificially intelligent speaker, has First Amendment rights. The case first came to light in December, when it emerged Amazon was contesting a warrant to provide audio from the Echo device covering a 48-hour period from November 21 through 22 2015, alongside subscriber and account information. Amazon handed over the subscriber information and purchase history, but in its 90-page argument against the warrant, filed late last week and published in full below, Amazon said recorded audio should have First Amendment protections and so it wanted the warrant thrown out.
