Transgender kids can now join the Boy Scouts

DALLAS — The Boy Scouts of America says it will allow transgender children who identify as boys to enroll in its boys only programs. The organization announced Monday that it had made the decision to base enrollment in boys only programs on the gender a child or parent lists on the application to become a scout.

The organization had previously held a policy that relied on the gender listed on a child’s birth certificate.A spokeswoman for the organization says it made the decision based on states and communities changing how gender is defined.A transgender child in Secaucus, New Jersey, was asked late last year to leave his Scout troop after parents and leaders found out he is transgender.

Spanish MEP threatens Scotland with ‘back of EU membership queue’ if it becomes independent

A Spanish MEP used scare tactics to warn Scotland against seeking independence post-Brexit, saying it would have to “join the queue” behind Montenegro, Serbia and Turkey if it then applied for EU membership.Addressing the European Parliament in Brussels on Monday, the Scottish parliament’s External Affairs Secretary Fiona Hyslop appealed for “solidarity” with European leaders, the Scotsman reports.

“In the turbulent and unpredictable months ahead, I ask you, respectfully, members of the European Parliament, as the elected body representing all EU citizens, please do not turn your back on Scotland.

“Now is the time to demonstrate your solidarity with a nation which voted overwhelmingly to remain within the European Union.”

Doctor-assisted suicide could save Canada $140 million a year, study suggests

Euthanasia could save the Canadian taxpayer C$139 million a year, health analysts believe.A study in the Canadian Medical Association Journal by researchers from the University of Calgary estimates that the healthcare savings of assisted dying — approximately $139 million a year — will dwarf the costs associated with helping patients to end their lives. The study utilises data about euthanasia rates in Belgium and the Netherlands. It multiplies the Netherlands data by current mortality rates for the Canadian population and recent end-of-life cost data. It also considers the direct costs associated with offering medically assisted death, including physician consultations and drug costs.

According to the authors, “as death approaches, health care costs increase dramatically in the final months. Patients who choose medical assistance in dying may forgo this resource-intensive period.”The authors go to pains to state they aren’t suggesting people be voluntarily euthanized to save money. “Neither patients nor physicians should consider costs when making the very personal decision to request, or provide, this intervention,” they write.Peter Tanuseputro, a physician-scientist at the Bruyère Research Institute and the Ottawa Hospital, said that this effort to quantify MAID should serve as a reminder that the Canadian health-care system must offer better palliative care, especially at home.

UK: No more weekend Changing of the Guard ceremonies due to fears of jihad attacks

Windsor Castle has cancelled Changing the Guard ceremonies amid fears of a terror attack after devastating incidents in Berlin and Nice last year. The longstanding tradition will no longer take place on Saturdays due to concerns over the possibility that jihadists could target the thousands of tourists who gather to enjoy the show.

A tragic example of civilizational jihad: the weekend ceremony that draws the most tourists, a ceremony representative of British culture and history, is nixed because of the terror that was cast into the hearts of the disbelievers by jihadists within. The Changing of the Guard is said to be “one of the highlights of a visit to Windsor Castle.”

What the Left Thinks of Religion

Madeline Albright and Gloria Steinem have both declared that they would register as a Muslim should the Trump administration demand Muslims do so. Firstly, this is an act which requires zero bravery because there are no consequences to saying so. None. Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright said Wednesday she is prepared to “register as Muslim” in solidarity amid reports that President Trump plans to take executive action affecting immigrants to the U.S.”I was raised Catholic, became Episcopalian & found out later my family was Jewish. I stand ready to register as Muslim in #solidarity,” Albright tweeted.Albright’s tweet echoes the sentiment of feminist icon Gloria Steinem, who said Saturday she, too, would register as a Muslim if such a registry were required. But, in the end, I think this is interesting mostly because it shows what the radical left thinks about religion. They clearly see religion as politics. Purely about this world and not the next. Neither considers the actual beliefs of each faith. No. It is purely a political statement.I wonder how the two would get on with their fellow Muslims. Probably not so well.

Lawsuit Filed Over Unhatched Hatchimals

(NEWSER) – Hatchimals, the hottest toys of the holiday season, laid an egg with many expectant kids Christmas morning when their furry hatchlings refused to come out of their shells. Now the manufacturer, Spin Master, is facing a class-action lawsuit from a California mom who alleges her child’s egg was a dud. The lawsuit, filed by Jodie Hejduk of Bakersfield, Calif., on behalf of what the suit says could be millions of consumers, claims Spin Master ran “a bait-and-switch marketing scheme.” Hatchimals are plush animals stuffed into plastic eggs that, when the egg is rubbed and cuddled for about half an hour, should begin to peck their way out. While Spin Master acknowledges some of the toys didn’t work as intended, the company tells CNBC it “provided troubleshooting support and where required immediately made available replacement products.”

Breaking: Lead Plaintiff In Trump’s ‘Muslim Ban’ Lawsuit Has Ties To Hamas, Supports Sharia

The Gateway Pundit reported last week that Linda Sarsour who was one of the leaders of the ‘Women’s March’ is pro-Sharia law with ties to Hamas. We also documented Sarsour’s vicious attacks against Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Brigitte Gabriel for being anti-Islam activists. Both women have suffered greatly because of Islam’s barbarism. Ayaan Hirsi Ali is a victim of female genital mutilation which makes Sarsour’s attacks on her even more egregious.

We also reported that the Council on American Islamic Relations CAIR would be filing a lawsuit against Trump’s so-called ‘Muslim ban’. We have obtained the legal complaint in full which shows the lead plaintiff is Linda Sarsour. You can read the document in full here.Muslims have become so brazen in the U.S., that they are suing our President for upholding the Constitution. Linda Sarsour has terrorist ties and CAIR is an unindicted co-conspirator to a Hamas funding case yet they believe they have legal power. It is time for President Trump to designate the Muslim Brotherhood, CAIR and other terrorist front groups operating in the U.S. exactly what they are-terrorist organizations!

Mathematician Wants to Fight Tsunamis With Sound Waves

(NEWSER) – Tsunamis are among the deadliest forces in nature. Look no further than the one in the Indian Ocean in 2004 that killed more than 230,000 people after being triggered by a powerful earthquake, notes a post at Phys.org. But what if tsunamis could be drained of their power before they reach land? A mathematician at Cardiff University in Wales is looking at just that possibility, and he reports in the journal Heliyon that firing acoustic-gravity waves at a tsunami could do the trick by reducing the killer wave’s energy and size while it’s still far out at sea. AGWs are naturally occurring, deep-ocean sound waves that can stretch for hundreds of miles and move at the speed of sound.

Iran to dump the US dollar in response to Trump’s travel ban

According to the local news agency PressTV, the Central Bank of Iran is seeking to replace the dollar with a new common foreign currency or use a basket of currencies in all official financial and foreign exchange reports. The governor Valiollah Seif said it would come into force in the new financial year starting March 21, 2017.The agency quotes Seif recommending using currencies with a “high degree of stability.

”The decision comes after President Trump temporarily banned citizens of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen from entering the US.After Trump’s election, the Iranian rial saw record lows against the dollar. On December 27 it plunged to its all-time low of 41,600 rials to the dollar. The head of the central bank said the US did not have a significant role in Iranian trade and could be replaced with currencies of Iran’s key partners like the European Union, China, and the United Arab Emirates.Tehran has agreements with Russia, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Iraq to use national currencies in the local trade.

Were police snooping on Women’s March protesters’ cellphones? Too many departments won’t say

The Women’s Marches last weekend were collectively some of the largest protests ever conducted in the United States. While we would love to have some hard data to be able to inform the public about what type of surveillance might have been used on the demonstrations, unfortunately many of the police department’s we have requested in our Cell Site Simulator Census have either not given us any documents yet, or used sweeping law enforcement exemptions in order to not disclose some of the more sensitive, and important, information about their use.

Robert Gehl reports that the media’s shrill arguments against President Donald Trump’s executive order on refugees and immigration entry procedures have again disintegrated into “fake news.”Whether or not the executive order is a good idea is up for debate, but not when the facts are twisted into a pretzel and the public is deceived. You can read the entire Executive Order here, and you’ll be one step ahead of most of the rest of the media. The media are calling it a “Muslim Ban,” and their headlines scream how incredibly awful it is.

Infamous Nazi cafe in Indonesia to close doors for good

A controversial a Nazi-themed cafe is finally shutting down in Indonesia blaming poor location and a low number of visitors, rather than death threats made against the owner, as the reason for the lauded closure. The Soldaten Kaffee cafe, who according to their Facebook page aim to explore “Hitler & the NAZIS as pop culture,” claims no political affiliation and says those who visit are not Nazis or neo-Nazis.Visitors to the cafe are greeted by framed pictures of Adolf Hitler, swastika flags and plates of food stamped with Third Reich symbols at the cafe named after the ‘Soldatenkaffees’ in Paris which were popular with Nazi soldiers during the German occupation of France during World War II.

Twitter’s abuse problem can’t be fixed until we fix ourselves

At the end of 2016, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey asked users to share their ideas for how the platform could be improved. One of the biggest requests was improving the way Twitter handled reports of abuse and harassment. But I believe people are fooling themselves if they think advanced tech or new features can fix Twitter for them.Today, the company’s vice president of engineering, Ed Ho, said that the company is working to address that, and will introduce changes to its systems for blocking abusers, as well as preventing them from creating new accounts to continue their tirades.

Travelers Affected By Ban Forced To Unlock Phones, Computers

President Trump’s confusing, chaotic executive order against travelers arriving from seven Muslim-majority countries has prompted federal agents to demand travelers — some of them legal residents — hand over access to their electronic devices and social media accounts to be searched, their lawyers say.Since the order’s surprise signing on Friday, scores of refugees and legal U.S. residents have been detained at and deported from airports across the country, followed by multiple federal courts ruling against detaining those who were in transit to the U.S. when Trump signed the order. Unlike temporary visitors, who are granted visas, green card holders are permanent legal residents that have already been granted the right to enter and leave the country freely. But even though some of the people detained have since been allowed entry, lawyers providing them legal assistance say many travelers are also being coerced by airport customs agent into letting government agents search their computers, phones, and social media accounts upon landing in the U.S.

80 years late, scientists finally turn hydrogen into a metal

If you don’t go far enough in chemistry, it’s easy to get the impression that metallicity is an innate property of certain elements. But “metallic” is simply defined as substances with electrons that can move around easily. These electrons give metals properties like good conductivity and an opaque, shiny appearance. But these traits are not exclusive to specific elements; carbon nanotubes can be metallic, and elements like sulfur become metallic under sufficient pressure. In 1935, scientists predicted that the simplest element, hydrogen, could also become metallic under pressure, and they calculated that it would take 25 GigaPascals to force this transition (each Gigapascal is about 10,000 atmospheres of pressure). That estimate, in the words of the people who have finally made metallic hydrogen, “was way off.” It took until last year for us to reach pressures where the normal form of hydrogen started breaking down into individual atoms—at 380 GigaPascals. Now, a pair of Harvard researchers has upped the pressure quite a bit more, and they have finally made hydrogen into a metal.
