TrackMeNot is a lightweight browser extension that helps protect web searchers from surveillance and data-profiling by search engines. It does so not by means of concealment or encryption (i.e. covering one’s tracks), but instead, paradoxically, by the opposite strategy: noise and obfuscation. With TrackMeNot, actual web searches, lost in a cloud of false leads, are essentially hidden in plain view. User-installed TrackMeNot works with Firefox and Chrome browsers and popular search engines (AOL, Yahoo!, Google, and Bing) and requires no 3rd-party servers or services.
Don’t expect it to go up anytime soon, but a New York City-based design firm has floated a mind-bending plan for the erection of a skyscraper it bills as “the world’s tallest building ever.”Dubbed Analemma, the fanciful tower wouldn’t be built on the ground, but suspended in air by cables from an asteroid repositioned into geosynchronous Earth orbit just for the purpose.Related: NASA’s Bold Plan to Save Earth From Killer AsteroidsOver the course of each day, the floating skyscraper would trace a figure-eight path over our planet’s surface, according to plans posted online by Clouds Architecture Office. It would swing between the northern and southern hemispheres, returning to the same point once every 24 hours.

An electric skull cap designed to zap cancer cells trying to grow in the brains of wearers proved useful at improving patient survival in a five-year clinical trial. When combined with standard chemotherapy, the cap more than doubled five-year survival rates of brain cancer patients—from 5 percent to 13 percent—researchers reported Sunday at the annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research being held in Washington, DC. The trial involved 695 patients newly diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma multiforme. The modest survival improvement is exciting for such a nasty form of cancer, researchers said. “Glioblastoma is the deadliest primary malignancy of the central nervous system for adults,” Dr. Roger Stupp, professor of neurological surgery at Northwestern, said in a press release. “The last time any form of treatment was shown to improve survival for patients with this disease was more than 10 years ago.”

A 5-year-old girl in Hoke County, North Carolina, was suspended for one day after she made a “shooting motion” with a stick shaped like a gun.
The girl–Caitlin Miller–was playing “Kings and Queens” at recess on Friday and her role in the game was “to protect the royals.” She picked up a stick shaped like a gun to do this and, according to ABC 11, “Hoke County Schools said Caitlin posed a threat to other students when she made a shooting motion, thus violating policy 4331.”
Caitlin’s mother, Brandy Miller, says her daughter “was alienated by her friends and teachers as a result of the suspension” and is hopeful that the school will apologize to Caitlin.
As of the now, the school system is standing by the suspension. They issued a statement, saying:
Hoke County Schools will not tolerate assaults, threats or harassment from any student. Any student engaging in such behavior will be removed from the classroom or school environment for as long as is necessary to provide a safe and orderly environment for learning.
Take my pennies!A 20-year-old woman named Adekemi Ayeni was so pissed off that a 7-Eleven clerk would not accept her “large amount of pennies” as payment for her items, that she trashed the store, and then of course, threatened to kill the employee. This all occurred in Melbourne, as according to police Ayeni entered the 7-Eleven at around 1:30AM, and offered the clerk a bunch of gross pennies as payment. The clerk informed Ayeni that the “amount was too much for the store to take in.” And that’s when Ayeni lost it.Ayeni was caught on camera losing her mind, as she “began throwing and pushing items off of the counter and at the clerk.”Ayeni then left the store, only to return with a pair of guns, as she said she was going to shoot the clerk. All of this because no one wanted her jar of pennies. The clerk suffered some minor injuries, but other than that she was fine.Ayeni fled the scene, but police eventually caught up with her. Police discovered that Ayeni was already a convicted felon, and a search of her car led police to find a “.38 caliber handgun, a BB gun, a hat “cut to be a ski mask,” and two pairs of “gardening style gloves.” Police believe Ayeni might be linked to other robberies. Makes sense.

People living in a Nottinghamshire village held a mocking ‘birthday’ for a pothole, complete with cake, after complaining about it to a council for two years.Vonnie Daykin says the hole first appeared on Main Road in Plumtree “at least” around March 2015.She and other villagers reported it to Nottinghamshire County Council, she said, but the hole has not been repaired and has grown even deeper. In a latest effort to highlight the hole, she took a picture of it next to a birthday cake placed on the road complete with candles, which was tweeted by the @PlumtreePeople village account.“I nearly put three candles on but I thought that might be pushing it,” said Vonnie.“It’s dangerous for people who drive, and who cycle, because if you come to a pothole you have to swerve out in to the road which makes it unsafe for everyone.“I last complained back in September or October time last year and they came and said they weren’t bad enough to fix.”
