Don’t Say Your Homework Was Easy Because You Might Offend Other Students

To the mounting list of ways to possibly offend other students on college campuses these days, you can now add talking about your homework.

“Sure, you had no ill-intent, and absolutely nothing racist in mind at all,” Stanford Prof, Ruth Starkman writes in the Huffington Post. But by merely uttering the words out loud, you risk a microaggression because you don’t know who in class may have struggled with the assignment, she says.

Trying to explain why an assignment wasn’t too hard for you is also a microaggression, Starkman advises students at elite colleges like Stanford. So don’t even think about telling peers if you’ve already been exposed to a subject or idea in high school.

“Not everyone went to your high school, had your fortunate circumstances, or such a dazzling delivery room arrival, and even if they did, they might still be suffering because of the genuine challenges of the assignments,” Starkman writes.

Fundamentally, Starkman says, some students struggle while others breeze through because of an injustice—namely “unevenly distributed knowledge.”

H.P. LOVECRAFT INSPIRED TENTACLE DILDOS ARE A THING

il_570xn-1081883820_4pca_465_623_int
An example of the tentacle dildos made by Lovecrafters Toys.

These inspired and colorful dildos come from an Etsy shop called Lovecrafters Toys. It seems that the owner of the shop, Chae, has a thing for H.P. Lovecraft as most of the sex toys in her store are silicone tentacles which are made to order. According to the site, you’re able to trick out your toy in pretty much any color you want. Chae will even paint the “suckers” on the tentacles another color just in case having a tentacle dildo in one color scheme just won’t do it for you.

Depending on the colors you choose one will run you anywhere from $47 to around $72 bucks and can also be used as a strap-on. You know, because Cthulhu is probably into some pretty cosmic shit. NSFW images follow.

Justice Department Gives Up Washington Redskins Name Fight

For many months now, maybe even years, the left has slammed the Washington Redskins for their name, trying to claim it was politically incorrect and should be changed.

It got to the point that the when the team went to re-register their trademarks, the federal government refused. That’s when the court battles began. But since the Supreme Court recently decided a case in which a band called ‘The Slants’ could indeed use that name since it was part of the First Amendment Right, things have changed for the Redskins, as the the Associated Pressreports:

The Justice Department is giving up the legal fight over the name of the Washington Redskins.

In a letter to a federal appeals court, the department said last week’s Supreme Court decision in Matal v. Tam in favor of an Asian-American band calling itself the Slants means the NFL team will prevail in a legal battle to cancel the team’s trademarks because the name is disparaging to Native Americans.

GET YOUR GOAT, YOU’VE PULLED Sick revellers at Oxford toff bash ‘romped with a goat’ during debauched uni party

The private dining club gained notoriety two years ago when unfounded claims were made about former PM David Cameron taking part in a sex ritual with a pig’s head.

A poster on student gossip page Oxfeu wrote: “Shoutout to those at Piers Gav who decided to f*** a goat — great to know Oxford remains a bastion of intellect.”

The message was dismissed as a warped joke, but was followed by a flurry of other outrageous claims.

On Oxford missed connections page Oxlove, a poster wrote: “To the guy I slept with in the orgy tent at the PG, let’s get a drink?”

Another student wrote: “Oriel blonde in the pink skirt: why did you reject me at gav?

“You are the reason I went and yet you refused to join me in the sex tent.”

Dollar posts biggest quarterly drop in nearly seven years

The U.S. dollar recovered slightly on Friday, but posted its biggest quarterly decline against a basket of rival currencies in nearly seven years after hawkish signals from foreign central banks this week pressured the greenback further.Investors have ramped-up expectations for tighter monetary policy from the European Central Bank, Bank of England and Bank of Canada after hints from officials this week. This has made the greenback less attractive, in addition to skepticism that the Federal Reserve would be able to raise interest rates again this year given a recent batch of weak U.S. economic data and doubts that U.S. President Donald Trump could enact his pro-growth agenda. The U.S. dollar index, which measures the greenback against a basket of six major currencies, declined about 4.6 .DXY percent for the second quarter to mark its steepest quarterly percentage drop since the third quarter of 2010.The euro accelerated more than 7 percent against the greenback for its biggest quarterly percentage gain since the third quarter of 2010. The euro racked up about 2 percent of its gains and the dollar index posted about 1.6 percent of its losses this week alone. The dollar gained about 1 percent against the Japanese yen over the quarter.

Ohio Town Wants to Start Letting Addicts Die That Overdose on Drugs

Middletown, Ohio — As states across the country struggle to combat the rising opioid epidemic, one city in Ohio is considering a highly controversial strategy.

In Middletown, the crisis has reached such proportions that a councilman wants to introduce a three-strike rule when it comes to treating opioid overdoses. Under the proposed plan, EMS workers would only be allowed to render aid to patients twice. If someone overdosed a third time, they would be on their own.

“If the dispatcher determines that the person who’s overdosed is someone who’s been part of the program for two previous overdoses and has not completed the community service and has not cooperated in the program, then we wouldn’t dispatch,” Councilman Dan Picard told local media.

“We’ve got to do what we’ve got to do to maintain our financial security,” said Picard, adding that dealing with the crisis is “just costing us too much money.”

Last year in Middletown, there was a total of 532 opioid overdoses, and there have already been 577 so far in 2017. These increases hit the city wallet hardest in the realm of medication. So far this year, the town of 50,000 has spent three times more on Narcan, the drug used to treat opioid overdoses, than it did in all of 2016.

No one argues that Picard’s assessment of the situation is incorrect, but Robert Haley of Cognitive Healthcare Opportunities In Constructive Environmental Settings (CHOICES) says frustration over the growing problem is no excuse to essentially let people die in the streets.

“Since when does a city start endorsing death and since when does a city develop a measure that would knowingly result in death?” he asked while speaking to Ohio’s Journal-News.

Still, Haley says Picard’s extreme proposal has “projected the high level of stress and frustration that’s present at this time” and that the councilman “has a right” to be grasping at straws in an attempt to fight the deadly — and continually growing — opioid epidemic.

Last year, for instance, there were 74 overdose deaths in Middletown. There have already been 51 so far this year. After analyzing data from health agencies around the country, the  New York Times wroteearlier this month that drug overdoses are now the leading cause of death for people under the age of 50.

Update: The Middletown Fire Department and the city in general are seeking donations to help cover the cost of Narcan, a drug used to mitigate overdoses. Per an email from Chief Paul Lolli, checks can be made out to The City of Middletown and sent to One Donham Plaza, Middletown, Ohio 45042; Attention Finance Department. Donors should specify that they want the funds to go solely to paying for Narcan.
